Weird Wednesdays

I'm starting a new blog series called "Weird Wednesdays". Every Wednesday I will be posting something weird or abnormal that I've captured here in Fort Lauderdale that I wouldn't see in Arizona or Utah. Now you can get a little glimpse of what we see down in South Florida.

To start the weird things off - GIANT rims. Everyone has them...old, young, white, Cuban, African-American, my neighbor...you name it.

*blurry pic - sorry taken from phone
Stay tuned for next Weird Wednesday...

Leaving for Ft. Lauderdale

This post is a little late, but I wanted to post it for journal purposes. This is the day we left our families and started our journey to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

i love family

I was lucky enough to fly across the country to attend the Stapley reunion at Aspen Grove. I just love being with my family, especially at Aspen Grove. Poor Rob had to stay in FL to work. We missed him!
Attacking the Ropes Course - my time wasn't so good this year, in the past I did it under a minute - I'm getting old.
Cousins riding the train
Little Danny - so cute
Cousin Dallin
Cousins shooting air rifles
Cousins laying out poolside
Dad at Arts & Crafts

I love being up in the mountains - the smell, the weather, nature!

What You Don't See

I have been wanting to be better at sharing more everyday occurrences and real life stuff on my blog. I came across this amazing idea on Jylare's blog and thought it was so great because I consider my blog my journal (I make a book out of it at the end of each year). I always blog about the positive things like vacations, our families, events, but I also want to add some of the negative happenings because my life isn't perfect. So every so often I will be posting "what you don't see" to show you that I'm a real person :).

What You Don't See

Some of you may have heard, about a month ago we had a miscarriage. It was a sad day, but we are so grateful for the love and support from our families and friends, especially the peace we receive from our Heavenly Father. We are anxious to get pregnant again.

More of "what you don't see" later... :)

First Week Away From Home

Our adventure started on Sunday, June 27 2010. We packed our car to the fullest and started our 3-day trip across the country to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was easy for us to navigate because we were on I-10 for 80% of the way. We stopped in San Antonio and had lunch on the Riverwalk and toured the Alamo.

Our next stop was New Orleans. I didn't expect to see the things that I saw...it was devastating seeing the demolished homes with caved in roofs. Bourbon Street was....interesting. Cafe De Monde was the cutest thing.

Thankfully, we have met some great couples in the ward. We watched fireworks on Las Olas (compared to Mill Ave.) and had a great time. Our ward has a lot of culture in it - a lot of Haitians. I hope to get a calling in YWs because there are a lot of young converts that need love and support. I want to be apart of their lives and help them!

This is Key Biscayne - the first key just east of Miami. We were on top of a lighthouse. Ps the beach was full of Cubans.

Storms are crazy here! You can only go 3mph because you CANNOT see in front of you. Seriously, I would rather drive in the snow. Our street gets flooded occasionally, no biggie.
